Day 1--Riverton, Ut to Las Vegas, Nv.: We finally made it

Jake--the boy with many silly faces

As we pull into Las Vegas on a hot (93 degrees at 8pm) June evening, we know we made the right choice to stop and stay here instead of driving on to California. The boys, Ben, Will, and Jake, would be content to watch a few more hours of Scooby Doo, but it has been one long day!! We have driven 412 miles already, and there will be plenty more ahead in the days and weeks to come. This is Day 1 of our marathon-long road trip which will take us from our home in Riverton, Utah, to Los Angeles, Ca., along the old Route 66 to Chicago, Illinois, and back home...estimated time it will take is 28 days, give or take a few. We have three boys, Ben (7 years old), and our twins--Will and Jake (4 years old). The twins just finished their last day of preschool yesterday and Ben finished first grade today at noon--thus the late start on our trip. The boys barely moved the whole way because they were so into their new Scooby Doo movie, but we stopped in St. George to eat (Pasta Factory, my favorite!) and get the wiggles out at a park. We had to refuel on our way out of town there, and paid $4.29 for premium--by far the most we have ever paid!! Now it's getting rediculously late and I tried to add in some photos, but obviously I don't know what I'm doing yet, but I'll learn...at least by the end of the trip. We have a blast traveling together as a family, and there isn't anyone else I'd rather be with than them. The boys can't wait to get to Grandma Airplane's tomorrow!!!!
